"Wrong version format" error message (corrected from PLC designer V3.5.0)

Corrected from:
- PLC Designer as of V3.5.0
- Device description Controller 3200C, p500 V3.5.0 (In PLC Designer project)

Response of the new version:
For PLC projects created with PLC Designer V3.5 and Controller Device Description V3.5 or greater, the "Wrong version format" error message no longer appears when downloading firmware via the controller to the i700 servo inverter.

What happens?
  • EtherCAT bus does not change to operational
  • Controller logbook contains the message:
Up-download manager is stopped because of error
    Firmware-DL to i700 (1001): Wrong version format: Version x.x

When does this behaviour occur?
The above-described behaviour occurs after switching on the controller if the PLC project was created with a PLC Designer version lower than V3.5 and the i700 servo inverter connected to the controller is equipped with firmware V1.7.5 or higher.

Which products are affected?
- PLC Designer
- 3200C controller
- p500 panel controller
- (i700 servo inverter V1.7.5 and higher)

Short-term measures:
Open the WebConfig of the controller and deactivate the checkbox under code C640 ("Enable field device firmware update"). In this way, the controller will no longer download any firmware to an i700 servo inverter connected via EtherCAT.

Evaluation/recommendations:
The above-described function restriction may occur if an i700 servo inverter is replaced with an i700 with the latest firmware version in an existing machine. A remedy is described under "Short-term measures".
