v800 - "Invalid License for this device Type" when starting VisiWinNET project on v800

What happens:
A project for the target device v800 has been created in VisiWinNET Smart.
The project was transferred to the v800 and the "VisiWinNET SmartCompact Embedded Runtime license for v800" was copied to the v800 in the project directory of the visualization.
After starting the visualization on the v800, the error "Invalid license for this device type" is displayed in the log file.
The VisiWinNET application will cancel the start.

When does this behaviour occur?
The content of the Eprom in the v800 does not contain the correct ID for the start of the visualization.

Which products are affected?
All devices of the v800 series can be affected.
Short-term measures:

Check whether the correct ID is set in Eprom.

Necessary tools:

  • USB stick (FAT or FAT 32 formatted)
  • USB keyboard

To control ID in the Eprom:

  • Download and unpack the VisiWinNET project "Project_CompactRT_v800_Check_Device_Type".
  • Copy the unzipped folder "Project_CompactRT_v800_Check_Device_Type" to the USB stick.
  • Insert this USB stick into the v800.
  • Open Explorer on the v800
  • Navigate to the USB stick and open the folder "Project_CompactRT_v800_Check_Device_Type".
  • Now double-click the file "Project_CompactRT_v800_Check_Device_Type.exe".

The VisiWinNET project starts.
The displayed device type in the visualization must be "v800-P or v800-C", so that correct licensing is in the eprom.

Evaluation/recommendations:

If the device type <> v800-C or v800-P, the Eprom must be updated with the correct identifier.

To update the Eprom:

  • Download the file "startup.nsh".
  • Copy the "startup.nsh" file to the ROOT directory of a USB stick.
  • Important! The USB stick must be formatted with FAT or FAT32
  • Connect the USB keyboard to a free USB port on the v800
  • Plug the USB stick into a USB port of the v800 system to be modified
  • Turn on the v800 system and press the [ESC] key several times to enter the boot manager
  • Select "UEFI: Build-in EFI Shell" from the keyboard and confirm with [Return]
  • The "startup.nsh" file is started after 5 sec.
  • The ID is automatically adjusted depending on firmware_type and device_type
  • After the modification, the correct Device_Type is displayed on the screen (example = v800-P)
  • To complete the modification, turn off the v800 system and remove the USB stick / keyboard
