'Scan Devices' dialog: Devices are not correctly identified and inserted (corrected from V3.22)

Corrected from:
PLC Designer V3.22

Response of the new version:
The following functional limitations have been fixed with the current PLC Designer version:
  • When searching EtherCAT slaves at the EtherCAT master (EtherCAT_Master: context menu 'Search devices').
    • ...the found devices are identified with the correct version.
    • ...found devices are assigned a device description with the correct motion license.
  • After manually changing the version in the 'Find Devices' dialog and then transferring it to the project, the changed version is inserted in the device tree of the project.
The following restriction still exists:
  • When searching IO slices at the backplane bus IO coupler (Coupler_I_O_moduls: context menu 'Search devices'), the found IO slices are partly identified with obsolete versions. Newer device description versions of these IO slices have the 'Parameter' tab.  The tab card is not displayed in the obsolete version. After an update to the latest device description version, the tab is displayed, but online the value 'zero' is displayed on this tab for each field.

What happens?
  • When searching for EtherCAT slaves at the EtherCAT master (EtherCAT_Master: context menu 'Search devices')
    • ...the found devices are partly identified with obsolete versions.
    • ...devices found are assigned a device description with an incorrect motion license (L-force Motion instead of FAST Motion).
  • After manually changing the version in the 'Find Devices' dialog and then transferring it to the project, the obsolete version is still inserted in the device tree of the project.
When does this behaviour occur?
The behavior occurs if device descriptions for the same device with different versions are installed in the device repository of the PLC Designer.

Which products are affected?
PLC Designer from V3.18

Short-term measures:
Do not use the 'Search Devices' dialog of the EtherCAT Master to insert devices, but insert the devices manually into the device tree.

Evaluation/recommendations:
With the function 'Search devices' the device descriptions of the devices physically connected to the EtherCAT master can be copied into the PLC project. Due to this function limitation it is possible that not the correct version of the device description is inserted into the PLC project. This function is typically only used at the beginning of the project engineering phase. An applicative solution is described under Short-term measures.
