Error message during download in Safety Controller c250-S (fixed from V3.22)

Corrected from
PLC Designer V3.22

Response of the new version:
The current device description of the c250-S safety controller is inserted after the device scan on the EtherCAT.
This enables an error-free download of the safety programme into the safety controller.

What happens?
The download of the safety programme into the c250-S safety controller is aborted with the following error message:
Service Handler is not available or has caused an error.

When does the behaviour occur?
When scanning EtherCAT slaves on the EtherCAT master (EtherCAT_Master: context menu 'Scan for Devices'), the outdated device description V1.0.0.2 for the Safety Controller c250-S is inserted into the PLC Designer project. When downloading the programme into the safety controller with this device description, the behaviour described above can be observed.

Which products are affected?
PLC Designer from V3.18
Safety Controller c250-S all versions

Short-term measures:
  • Update the device description of the safety controller in the PLC Designer project. To do this, select the safety controller in the device tree and execute the menu command 'Update Device' in the context menu (right mouse button). Now select the latest version of the controller.
  • Do not use the 'Scan for Devices' dialogue of the EtherCAT Master to insert devices, but insert the devices manually into the device tree.
Evaluation/Recommendations:
The 'Scan for devices' function can be used to copy the device descriptions of the devices physically connected to the EtherCAT master into the PLC project. Due to this function limitation, it is possible that the correct version of the device description is not inserted into the PLC project. This function is typically only used at the beginning of the project planning phase. An applicative solution is described under Short-term measures.
